What is Fashion Studies?
A great many disciplines are attentive to Fashion Studies. It is a field that has been involved at both centre and periphery within many academic areas, and a field that requires its own image in the mirror of knowledge from now on. Fashion Studies at Stockholm University is unique in that it is not subsidiary to art history, design, film, ethnology, media, history or business school. Instead, it enables innovative interactions between all of these disciplines to emerge in staff and post-graduate student research; always with a focus upon "fashion" in its broadest dimension - geographically and historically. Fashion Studies as a field develops new conceptual frameworks through an encounter between different ways of thinking and writing about fashion; which extends also to analysis of popular media and designing.
